Breath our scents, walk our landscape, hear our melodic dialects, delight in our savory morsels, touch each rich texture, and the southern essence remains a mystery. The ethereal south, unfathomable to the five senses, lives in the heart. If you believe in magic, and can survive the devastating passions of an open heart, just possibly, you stand a chance of living a moment as a southerner. Most people aren't brave enough to be southerners, even the ones that are.

The Scarlet Starlet, Sunset and Study

A Study in Scarlet, a Scarlet Sunset, and the Scarlet Starlet, are today's "S" words. Sexy, Sultry, and Sensual were the original three "S" words I had chosen. Then, as sometimes can happen, in the process of piecing together this post, an evolution of thought and theme took place and this is what developed. You would think a Scarlet Starlet would be all those descriptive things; sexy, sultry and sensual; and so it is. Its a beautiful little flower; a type of marigold actually.

The Scarlet Sunset is also all those things; sexy, sultry, and sensual.

Now you're all disappointed because you think a sunset is a sunset, and you thought the Scarlet Starlet was a woman of some questionable character perhaps? The intrigue of the title has been bashed. You're thinking, "What's left is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes yarn"? Yes. That's almost correct. Here's the billboard poster for the film version:

But if you guessed correctly, you still aren't entirely correct. That Scarlet Starlet that you imagined before you saw the flower? Yep. That's the one this post is about.

So there we have it. I've done an imaginary post that you have seen in your mind's eye. Don't let this mess with your mind very long. It's just another of the many enigmas you will encounter beneath the Carolina moon.
